The Rescue Bond Initiative bridges the gap between U.S. shelter animals and people who would benefit most from companionship. Thousands of qualified guardians exist, but face shared barriers to having a pet that are unrelated to ability to care for an animal.

Rescue Bond Initiative was founded on a simple belief: the bond between people and animals can change lives — but too often the systems around it fail both.

Each year on average 6-7 million animals enter shelters. Due to overcrowding, approximately 900 thousand are euthanized (ASPCA, 2023). Simultaneously, the top barriers to permanent adoption are financial and training support.

The gap is not compassion. It is structure.
